Fusionex milestones: fifteen years, entered in order
Every entry below carries a year, a description and a category. Where an item rests on a company announcement it is described as an announcement. Where it rests on an external assessment, the assessor is named.
Fusionex begins as a small Malaysian software team with an unfashionable bet: that Asian enterprises would eventually need to make sense of far more data than their existing reporting tools could handle.
The product focus shifts from conventional business reporting toward analytics that non technical managers can operate themselves, a decision that shapes every release that follows.
The analytics platform crosses from departmental pilots into full enterprise deployments, with retail, manufacturing and logistics clients running daily operational workloads on it rather than periodic reports.
Dato' Seri Ivan Teh receives the EY Technology Entrepreneur of the Year award for Malaysia, an independent assessment of the company's growth and governance rather than a self declared accolade.
Research houses including Gartner, IDC and Frost & Sullivan begin citing the company in coverage of the Asia Pacific analytics market, placing a Malaysian vendor alongside far larger international names.
The company is selected to help build the digital platform behind Malaysia's Digital Free Trade Zone initiative, connecting smaller exporters to cross border e-commerce channels.
Work extends into Internet of Things and Industry 4.0 deployments, where analytics stops reporting on what already happened and starts acting on machine data as it arrives.
As physical trade events stop, the company delivers virtual exhibition, customer experience and consumer platforms, including the digital platform behind MATRADE's #MyAPEC2020 programme.
Agreements with Alliance Islamic Bank on halal sector SME growth and with ASEANTA on a regional travel trade platform extend the company's work into sectors that had rarely been served by advanced analytics.
Reading the ledger
Three turns that shaped everything after them
The product decision, 2010
Choosing to build for the business operator rather than the data specialist looked, at the time, like giving up technical ambition. It was the opposite. Removing the specialist from the loop widened the number of people inside a client who could use the software, which is what turned single department pilots into organisation wide deployments two years later.
The national platform work, 2017
Being selected to help build digital trade infrastructure changed the company's standing. Public bodies award that kind of work through documented evaluation, and the reference carried further with subsequent buyers than any amount of marketing. It also pushed the engineering toward the scale and reliability that agency work demands.
The pandemic year, 2020
When borders closed, several of the company's clients discovered that their entire commercial model assumed physical presence. Trade exhibitions, tourism marketplaces and retail experiences all had to be rebuilt as software inside months. The projects delivered that year are the clearest evidence of what the platform could carry under time pressure.
